Sidha medicine is one of the most ancient medical systems of India. Sidha is the mother medicine of ancient Tamils/Dravidians of peninsular South India. The word Sidha means established truth. The persons who were associated with establishing such a Sidha school of thought were known as Sidhars. They recorded their mystic findings in medicine, yoga, and astrology in Tamil. Fundamental principles of Sidha include theories of Five Elements (Aimpootham), and Three Forces/Faults (Mukkuttram). The Eight methods of examination (Envakai Thervukal) is used to determine diagnosis, etiology, treatment and prognosis. Sidha has safe herbal and herbo mineral treatment for psoriasis, eczema, alopecia, diabetic ulcer, warts, vitiligo, pemphigus, pompholyx, leprosy, and many more very common and rare diseases. Lifestyle modifications including diet are important.

The system has developed a rich and unique treasure of drug knowledge in which use of metals and minerals is very much advocated. Some idea about the depth of knowledge the system possesses in the field of mineral, material medical can be found from the detailed drug classification, briefly described below:

  • There are 25 varieties of water-soluble inorganic compounds called “UPPU”. These are different types of alkhalies and salts.
  • There are 64 varieties of mineral drugs that do not dissolve in water but emit vapours when put in fire. Thirty two of these are natural and remaining are artificial.
  • There are seven drugs that do not dissolve in water but emit vapour on heating.
  • The system has classified separately classes of metals alloys, which melt when, heated and solidifies on cooling. These include the metals gold, silver, copper, tin lead and iron. These are incinerated by special processes and used in medicine.
  • There is a group of drugs that exhibit sublimation on heating and includes mercury and its different forms like red sulphide of mercury, mercuric chloride and red oxide of mercury etc.
  • Sulphur, which is insoluble in water, finds a crucial place in Sidha materia medica along with mercury for use in therapeutics and in maintenance of health.
  • The above classification shows detailed knowledge and study of minerals that this system has evolved for treatment. In addition there are drugs obtained from animal sources. The system has published a hand-book on Sidha treatment for common diseases and ailments.

Focusing on strength, flexibility and breathing, yoga is one of the oldest forms of exercise for mind and body Originating in India more than 5,000 years ago, yoga has been changed over the years and is now a common activity in many gyms and fitness centres across the world.
Yoga is mental, physical and spiritual practice with the goal to attain tranquility in both mind and spirit. It is open to interpretation. People will do yoga for a range of reasons. It is often used to improve flexibility, whether that is by someone who is extremely active, or someone recovering from injury who needs physiotherapy. Others will practice it for its holistic benefits.
Although yoga is now something that people do in their spare time, it was once a way of life. Anyone who practiced it was dedicating themselves to a particular lifestyle. This is the reason why many people ask if yoga is a religion. It once extended itself into how you ate, interacted with other people, worked and even bathed.
